Electronic Controls Engineer required to support the development of Automotive Electric and Electronic Control Systems for our Client who is a leading Powertrain business in the West Midlands.

With extensive experience of both Engineering Calculations and Simulation Tools, such as Mathcad and PSpice, you will have an excellent working knowledge of Automotive Sensors, electrically controlled Actuators, Automotive Electronic Controllers with up to date knowledge of Electronic Components, coupled with hands on experience of Integrating them within defined Control Systems to exacting Requirements, with a proven track record of successfully having worked on such systems.

Electronics Controls Engineer Role:

Support Automotive Electronic Powertrain Control System development for future Vehicles.
Work within a team of engineers in the UK and provide support to engineers based offshore.
Support the build-up of an in-depth understanding of Electronic Powertrain Control System interactions other vehicle systems.
Actively support effective communication with various teams to ensure that requirements are adequate and achievable.
Working closely with the safety and diagnostic teams to ensure fault reaction strategy is both adequate and achievable.
Support the development of documented Test Procedures to effectively validate control strategies on both HiL Rig and prototype vehicles.
Work closely with multidiscipline teams to ensure right first-time control systems.
Support the development and delivery of electronic control architectures for diverse variants of powertrain architecture including hybrid.
You will also be expected to provide the Systems Team with Electronic Control System Architectures that can be used to assess and ultimately to identify the future Powertrain Electrical Control System Architecture(s) for Vehicles.

Electronics Controls Engineer Requirements:

Sound understanding of the constraints related to Electronic Powertrain Control Systems such as: drive-ability, performance capability, (dynamic and fuel economy), emission and regulation constraints within the Global Automotive Market.
Able to work independently on all aspects of Electronic Powertrain Control and able to lead a team. Good presentation skills and the ability to clearly communicate technical matters are also required.
Bachelor`s degree or equivalent in automotive, control systems or Electronics
Strong background of the electronics design and test background:
o Power supply design: Buck/Booster converter and LDO.
o uC knowledge: ideally Aurix series.
o Communication protocol: CAN/FD, wake-up strategy, etc.
o Schematic design and circuit simulation by using pSpice including both analog and digital circuit.
o Worst case analysis: Mathcad.
o HW Test: Test case design and test equipment, oscilloscope, etc.
o EMC and reliability: Test and debug.
Proven experience in Automotive Powertrain Control Development.
Strong numeracy and literacy skills, including the ability to write clear documentation.
Excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a cross functional team.
Able to demonstrate a good understanding of system engineering processes.
Experience of control system development using MiL, HiL and prototype vehicles.
Capable of performing robustly in a dynamic environment.
Proven track record of delivering within demanding deadlines.
Direct experience is essential with preferably some of this within the Automotive Industry.
A working knowledge of Functional Safety Standard ISO26262 would be an advantage.
Experience of working with hybrid and battery electric vehicles would be an advantage.
Experience of undertaking DFMEA at System and Sub-System level, with good logical reasoning.
Able to operate within a team to strive for improvements and high customer service.
Evidence of achieving results through effective self-motivation and prioritisation.
An ability to overcome cultural barriers.
